Introducing the Cortex MCP Server

Your developer portal, just a prompt away

Cortex gives engineering teams full visibility and control over their services, from ownership and standards to service history and production readiness. Our goal is to help teams stay aligned and move faster so they are ready for whatever is ahead.

The reality for any engineering team is that developers spend the most of their time in their IDE, not their IDP. And while developers love the context Cortex provides, they don’t love context switching.

That’s exactly why we’re excited to introduce the Cortex MCP server.

Using Cortex MCP, developers can now access real-time engineering context from Cortex directly through their IDE. This means anyone using AI coding assistants can now ask natural language questions and get instant answers pulled from the complete context available in Cortex.

“Are we ready to deploy this to production?”

The value of complete context

While many teams are already integrating MCP servers for standalone tools like GitHub, PagerDuty, Jira, and more, they each provide limited context within their specific domains. They may not have a full understanding of your engineering organization and the priorities of all teams. This changes with Cortex MCP.

Our initial implementation exposes key insights from three specific areas in Cortex:

  • Entities: Access everything there is to know about your entire catalog made up of microservices, libraries, domains, teams, infrastructure resources, and more.

  • Scorecards: Understand how your organization is measuring, tracking, and driving improvements in engineering standards and best practices across all entities.

  • Initiatives: Gain insights from specific goals and deadlines set by key stakeholders to drive accountability and change.

Combining this unique information provides more complete context to help your AI assistant provide accurate, real-time information.

Instead of diving into Cortex, developers can now just ask their AI whatever is top of mind, in natural language, like:

“I’m on-call and I just got paged for the brain-payments service. Give me recent deploys, documentation, runbooks, and dependencies.”

The Cortex MCP makes it easy for anyone to find the information they need. Platform engineers in the middle of a migration can simply ask about next steps. SRE teams can quickly check status of product readiness or security compliance to meet critical deadlines.

Maximizing your AI investments

This is just the beginning. We are seeing AI capabilities enhance the way engineering teams work every day. We are actively working with our customers to collect feedback and improve the Cortex MCP. Our goal is to support even more advanced use cases, letting your AI coding assistants not only answer questions, but step into action for you.
